Jesus College
Oxford
The prestigious Jesus College project posed several challenges for Savvy including conducting refurbishment and repair work on a site fully occupied by both academic staff and students. Operating in such an environment with tight deadlines and limited working space proved very challenging. In addition, the historic nature of this medieval building, much of which dates from 1571 during the reign of Elizabeth 1st, made special demands on techniques and materials. This has required the Savvy team to employ rarely-used traditional craft skills, techniques and unusual building materials in order to ensure that the repairs would harmonise with the original materials so as to be unobtrusive and in keeping with the conservation officers’ requirements.
